The meaning of sex reassignment surgery usually differs for transwomen (male to female) rather than transmen (female to male). For transwomen, sex reassignment usually involves the surgical construction of vagina, whereas in the case of transmen, this term may entail any of a variety of procedures, from the mastectomy (removal of the female breasts) to the shaping of a male-contoured chest to the construction of a penis. Additionally, transmen usually undergo a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
Chest (or "top") surgery is often the only surgical procedure female-to-male transsexuals choose to undergo, as GRS techniques for transmen are still rather unrefined and typically produce genitalia of compromised aesthetic and functional quality.
For some transwomen, facial feminization surgery and breast augmentation are also important parts of the sex reassignment process.
People who pursue sex reassignment surgery are usually referred to as transsexual; "trans" - across, through, change; "sexual" - pertaining to the sexual characteristics (not sexual actions) of a person. More recently, people pursuing SRS often identify as transgender instead of transsexual.
There are men and there are women. There are men who want to become women and women who want to become men. There are also people who are still wearing acid-washed jeans, but we're not gonna talk about them. They're freaky.

History of 'sex reassignment surgery'

The earliest identifiable recipient of Male to Female Sex Reassignment Surgery was Lili Elbe in Berlin, in 1930-1931. This was started with the removal of the male sex organs and was carried out by Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld. Lili went on to have four more subsequent operations that included an unsuccessful uterine transplant, the rejection of which resulted in death. An earlier known recipient of this was Magnus Hirschfeld's housekeeper,[3] but her identity is unclear at this time.


Reasons for Sex Change

  • Newborns with intersex deformities must early on be assigned to one sex or the other. These deformities represent intermediate stages between the primordial female genitals and the change into male genitals caused by male hormone stimulation.
  • Both men and women occasionally believe they are physically a different sex than they are mentally and emotionally. This dissonance is so profound that they are willing to be surgically altered.

in my opinion, i don't think its right to change your image as well as your gender by sex change. when you change your gender, you do not respect the ordinance of your community neither the law of nature. to tell you the truth, i dislike people who are not contented of themselves, who wants more even if they don't need it.

i can't imagine the world with lots of people living in falsehood. even if the whole universe admires them with their beauty, (don't count me on the list) i really don't agree with it.

let's open our hearts and our minds. they really don't deserve to be praised. but its only my opinion. it's up to you if you agree with me or not. why not post a comment, i'll be glad if you'll do so. thanks.

After a sex change, will a man who changes into a woman really becomes a woman and vice versa? Or is there a limitation?

Sex Change is an inaccurate term often used for gender reassignment therapy, that is all medical procedures transgendered people can have, or specifically to sexual reassignment surgery, which usually refers to genital surgery only. It is also sometimes used for the medical procedures intersex people undergo, or, more often, are subjected to as children.
"Sex change" is also used for the whole process of changing gender role and the medical procedures associated with it. Since changing of gender role, i.e. living as a woman instead of living as a man, or living as a man instead of living as a woman, is much more important to almost all transgendered people than any medical procedures, this use is even more inaccurate. (Of course, medically induced changes and surgeries are often needed to make a change of gender role at all possible, both socially and legally. Also, they can have a very significant impact on the well-being of people having them.)
